Our Jewelry & Materials

What is PVD plating?

PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition — a modern plating process that bonds a thin layer of real 14–18k gold directly to stainless steel at the molecular level, inside a vacuum chamber. Traditional gold plating just coats the surface, similar to a sticker; PVD fuses the gold to the metal itself, similar to a tattoo. That bond is what makes our pieces so much more resistant to scratching, fading, and water damage than standard plated jewelry.

Is Silt jewelry waterproof?

Yes — our necklaces are safe to wear in the shower, the pool, or while working out, so you don't have to take them off for everyday life. That said, we still recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to chlorine, saltwater, and harsh chemicals, which can dull any jewelry's finish over time even when it's water-resistant.

Will my necklace tarnish, fade, or turn my skin green?

No. Both our stainless steel and gold PVD plating are corrosion-resistant, so they won't rust, tarnish, or discolor with normal wear. Skin discoloration is usually caused by lower-quality metals reacting to moisture and skin oils. That's not something you'll run into with Silt.

Is Silt jewelry hypoallergenic?

Yes. Both stainless steel and our gold PVD plating are hypoallergenic and nickel-safe, making them a solid choice even if you have sensitive skin.

What's the difference between stainless steel and gold PVD pieces?

Our stainless steel pieces are solid stainless steel throughout, with a cool, silver-tone finish and virtually no maintenance required. Our gold pieces start with that same stainless steel base, then get a layer of 14–18k gold bonded on through the PVD process, giving you the look of gold jewelry with the everyday durability of steel underneath.

Is Silt jewelry real gold?

Our gold pieces are plated with genuine 14–18k gold using PVD, so the gold itself is real. It's just not solid gold all the way through, the way a solid gold ring would be. This lets us offer the look and quality of real gold at a more accessible price.

How long will the gold plating last?

Thanks to PVD's molecular bond, our plating holds up significantly longer than traditional gold plating, with a lifetime warranty.

Can necklace chains be adjusted or customized in length?

Yes, every Silt necklace comes with a built-in adjustable extender, so you can customize the length to layer or wear it exactly how you like.

Orders & Shipping

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

We begin processing orders quickly to get them to you as fast as possible, so we can only accommodate changes or cancellations before an order ships. Email support@siltshop.com right away and we'll do everything we can, but we can't guarantee a change once an order has entered processing.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. From there, standard shipping takes 3–7 business days (free on orders over $75; $5.95 flat rate under $75), and expedited shipping takes 2–3 business days ($14.95 flat rate). We currently ship within the U.S. only, including Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories. See our Shipping Policy for full details.

What happens if my package is lost or stolen after delivery?

Silt isn't able to replace or refund orders that the carrier marks as delivered. If this happens, contact us at suport@siltshop.com and we'll help you file a claim with the carrier. Orders over $250 are automatically insured and may require a signature on delivery.

Caring for Your Jewelry

How do I clean my necklace?

For stainless steel, clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap as needed. For gold PVD pieces, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove oils and residue. For both, avoid abrasive cleaners, polishing compounds, and ultrasonic cleaners, which can scratch or dull the finish.

How should I store my jewelry when I'm not wearing it?

Store pieces separately in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box to prevent scratching and tangling, keep them away from direct sunlight and humidity, and fasten clasps before storing to help prevent tangling.

Can I wear my jewelry every day?

Absolutely — that's exactly what it's designed for. Both stainless steel and gold PVD plating are built to handle daily wear, water, and life in general, so you shouldn't need to take your Silt pieces off for everyday activities.
